The Importance of Ergonomics in Daily Life
Ergonomics is the study of people’s efficiency in their working environment.
Proper ergonomic design is necessary to prevent repetitive strain injuries and other musculoskeletal disorders, which can develop over time and can lead to long-term disability.
In this short E-mail, I’m going to give you a few tips to consider daily to improve your ergonomics at work, and at home.
Workout Meetings
What Is It: Workout meetings are exactly as it sounds. Business meetings while engaging in a physical activity, like walking, light jogging, or other forms of steady state exercise. These meetings take place in different settings, like local parks, office gyms, or even designated office spaces equipped for physical activity.
Why It’s Important: These meetings boost creativity, reduce stress, and improve overall health. More importantly, they promote a culture of wellness within your organization, and reduce low energy meetings that force you into poor posture for hours on end.
Standing Desk
What Is It: Do I really have to elaborate on this 🙂 In honor of your time, i won’t.
Why It’s Important: Standing desks reduce the negative effects of prolonged sitting, such as back pain, poor posture, and decreased circulation. Less of the former, and more of the energy and productivity.
Bosu Ball Seat
What Is It: A Bosu ball seat is a stability ball or balance trainer used as a chair. You know, the BIG BLUE ball you often see at the gym.
Why It’s Important: Using a Bosu ball seat engages the core muscles and promotes better posture by encouraging YOU, the SITTER, to maintain balance. It adds a dynamic element to sitting, breaking the monotony of a traditional office chair.
Vertical Mouse or Ball Mouse
What Is It: A vertical mouse or ball mouse is an ergonomic alternative to traditional computer mice. A vertical mouse is designed to be held in a handshake position, while a ball mouse uses a trackball for cursor movement, reducing wrist strain.
Why It’s Important: These ergonomic mice are important for preventing repetitive strain injuries, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, that can result from prolonged use of traditional mice.
Exercise Snacking
What Is It: Exercise snacking involves breaking up physical activity into short, manageable sessions throughout the day, rather than engaging in longer, continuous workouts. These “snacks” of exercise can be as brief as 5-10 minutes each.
Why It’s Important: Exercise snacking makes it easier to add physical activity into YOUR busy schedule, increasing regular movement and reducing time spend sedentary.
GO GET ERGONOMIC 🙂 😅
