Hey Everyone!

I’ve been doing research about whether laziness can be genetic and if it may potentially explain why some people dislike exercise. Most American adults do not meet the recommended standard of 30 minutes of moderate activity five days a week. Among 5,700 MU employees, 46% were overweight, 40% were inactive, and 30% were being treated for high blood pressure.

Researchers Frank Booth and Michael Roberts suggest that genetics may influence exercise motivation. Their study, based on experiments with mice, found that descendants of active mice were significantly more active than those of less active mice. The study identified 36 genes that could contribute to inactivity.

This research adds to the understanding of how genes like the fat gene (FTO) may have evolved for survival but now contribute to health risks in a sedentary lifestyle. Despite genetic predispositions, recent studies show that even minimal exercise can mitigate these risks.
